The Eclectica began, as many good things do, with a dog.
His name is Jax. The illustrations portray him as polite and dapper. This is wishful thinking. In reality, he is a highly strung standard poodle with a surprisingly long list of things he objects to. His emotional landscape consists largely of two things: an abiding distrust of passing dogs, electric scooters and anyone who shuffles, and boundless enthusiasm for tennis balls.
He lives with someone who has an unreasonable affection for Art Deco doorways, old hotels, beautiful rooms, and the sort of objects that make absolutely no practical sense except that they make life nicer. Which, if you think about it, is practical after all.
There are no rules here. No “five things every stylish home needs.” No insistence that every room contains an artificial olive tree. Just places and objects that seem worth talking about.
The Eclectica is simply a place to collect them.
Rooms with personality. Houses that have lived a little. Paintings that don’t
match the sofa.
Designers who know restraint and those who absolutely don’t.
Occasionally there will be opinions.
Mostly there will be admiration.
There will almost certainly be drawings of Jax. He remains blissfully unaware of his mascot status.
That’s about it. Welcome.
